On this evening, various speakers and the author himself will read from his latest novel. Kurdish musicians living in exile will also perform. At the end of the reading, the author will answer questions from the audience.
Bakhtyar Ali was born in Sulaimaniya (northern Iraq) in 1966. In 1983, his involvement in the student protests brought him into conflict with Saddam Hussein's dictatorship. He abandoned his studies in geology to devote himself to poetry. His first volume of poetry, Gunah w Karnaval (Sin and Carnival), was published in 1992 and his work includes novels, poems and essays. He has lived in Germany since the mid-1990s. He was awarded the Nelly Sachs Prize in 2017 and the Hilde Domin Prize in 2023.
With his novel "Stadt der weißen Musiker" (City of White Musicians), the author helped initiate the open-arts motto "Über die Zeit" (On Time) for the years 2024 and 2025 with his vision of an eternal archive of artists.
