Cistercian abbey Marienstatt

Brief description

In the year 1212, the history of the Cistercian abbey Marienstatt began.

Detailed description

Let yourself be enchanted by the magnificent Marienstatt Abbey. This famous place of pilgrimage is now regarded as one of the spiritual and cultural centers of the Westerwald region. The first Gothic church on the right bank of the Rhine in Germany, built by monks, is a remarkable work of art. Inside, you can find one of the oldest choir stalls still in use in Germany, the miraculous image of the "Virgin of Sorrows," as well as the grand Rieger organ.

The monastery site has much more to offer!
On the beautiful grounds, you will also find the private high school of Marienstatt Abbey, the guesthouse, a library, as well as a bookstore and an art shop. The beautiful baroque garden of the monastery, open to the public, as well as the historic Nister Bridge, which leads to the abbey site, are particularly evocative. Combine your excursion with a detour to the Marienstatter Brauhaus brewery. In good weather and with a freshly poured abbey beer, the large Biergarten invites you to savor the hearty dishes of regional cuisine.
