A journey to the treasures of the earth - this is what the mine train invites you to do with a trip into the impressive underground facilities of the former iron ore mine. The guided tour takes you into the deep Bindweider gallery on the original mine train. This takes you into the mine the same way the miners from Steinebach once did.
Iron ore was mined in the Bindweide mine for over 200 years, until mining ceased in 1931. Since 1986, the Bindweide mine has once again been one of the few exhibition mines in Germany that can still be visited. After being completely modernised in 2013/14, the Bindweide mine is now an unforgettable experience for the whole family. Wearing a helmet and carrying a torch, you enter the old mine.
A mine train takes you to the mining sites deep in the mountain. The hard and dangerous work of the up to 900 miners in the Bindweide mine can be experienced in the old tunnels and mines when the original pneumatic drills drive their chisels into the rock with a deafening noise. The tour of the mine quickly gives you an idea of the efforts that went into extracting over 5 million tonnes of ore.
A modern visitor centre with a museum and a pit forge make historical mining an experience for young and old, families and groups. A hiking trail leads to the Barbaraturm - an imposing winding and observation tower. We look forward to your visit! Further information about the Bindweide mine: www.bindweide.de
