Your journey through time starts at the Romanesque pillar basilica, within sight of the hiking car park. Since the 12th century, the medieval building has defied wars, wind and weather. The circular route leads past the church over meadow paths with an impressive panorama into the wide landscape. Past a basalt cone, the path crosses the village of Kircheib on field paths and asphalt roads and crosses the former Cologne high military and trade route (now B 8). The route continues a short distance through the village and then turns onto narrow footpaths and field paths into a wide wet meadow landscape. There you reach a small forest with a mysterious pond: This secured the Broichhausen motte as a difficult obstacle to overcome, a medieval tower building in the middle of the small body of water that is no longer preserved. In an idyllic location, a seating area offers the opportunity to rest. The path then runs through pastureland again and finally along an asphalted field path back to the starting point at the Kircheiber church.
A little caution is required when crossing the historic Cologne High Military and Trade Road (today's B 8).
In the winter months, the quality of the path may be impaired due to logging work on certain sections of the path. If you think that certain sections of the path are not suitable for you, you should avoid them. In adverse weather conditions, natural paths can become muddy and slippery. In autumn in particular, you should also be aware that leaves lying on the ground can cover bumps, roots, stones or holes in the path. You must expect this type of path impairment when you go hiking. Although the path is very well marked throughout, you should always have a suitable hiking map with you for safety reasons.
