Every 2nd Sunday of the month, guided tours of the tunnels are conducted without prior registration. Anyone wishing to book a tour outside of these dates should send a request for an appointment and the number of participants using the contact form at westerwalderleben.de.
A tour lasts about 20 to 30 minutes, depending on the curiosity of the participants. The maximum number of people per tour is 10. Accessibility for strollers and wheelchairs is not provided. The suitability for walkers must be tested on site.
Adults are provided with a safety helmet. For children, if possible, a bicycle helmet should be brought. After heavy rain above ground, there may be larger puddles and dripping peaks on the tunnel floor, so dirt- and moisture-repellent jackets and shoes are recommended. In the mine, the temperature is about 10 °C, so warmer clothing is advisable.
Entry is free. Donations are appreciated.
The visitor tunnel of the "Grube Edelstein" in the Westerwald community of Luckenbach is the only iron ore mine in the Westerwaldkreis that can still be experienced by locals and tourists today. Visitors have the opportunity to dive into the underground world of the old miners every second Sunday from April to October.
