The Johann Strauss Orchestra Wiesbaden is made up of top-class musicians from the most renowned German orchestras: On the one hand, there are members of the opera orchestras of Wiesbaden, Frankfurt, Stuttgart, Mainz, Saarbrücken and Cologne and, on the other, musicians from the radio symphony orchestras of Hessischer Rundfunk, Norddeutscher Rundfunk, Westdeutscher Rundfunk, Bayerischer Rundfunk and SWR Sinfonieorchester.
The orchestra's namesake, Johann Strauss and the Strauss dynasty, are the focus of the repertoire and for lively concerts with works from the entire Viennese repertoire, including composers such as Franz von Suppé, Carl Michael Ziehrer, Johann Schrammel, Josef Hellmesberger, Franz Lehár and, as a representative of French operetta, Jacques Offenbach.
The atmospheric New Year's concerts in Wiesbaden's Kurhaus in particular made the orchestra famous far beyond the borders of the Hessian state capital, and the great popularity of the New Year's concerts in the Viennese tradition is also largely due to the work of this orchestra.
The audience can look forward to a program of popular, spirited waltzes, lively polkas, snappy marches and soulful operetta songs from the golden and silver operetta era, accompanied by an expert and humorous moderator.
