Directions

At the information point, take the path into the Burggarten. After about 60 m, turn left onto the path and always follow the red lion paws signage. Leave the Burggarten at the upper wall opening to the right. Pass the Landschaftsmuseum, cross Leipziger Straße at the zebra crossing, and turn left straight ahead into Dehlinger Weg. At the fork, go left through the later beginning chestnut avenue until the Jewish cemetery starts on the left side. Turn here and after about 80 m go right. This section offers a very beautiful view of the Nister valley.

Continue straight until the forest begins on the left, then turn right until you reach the paved road and continue past the archery range further into the forest. Behind the arboretum on the left side, turn right and follow the path for about 300 m.

The path ends at the "Ziegelhütte". Here once stood the brickworks. Continue left; after about 250 meters, medieval earthworks with a passage are still visible on both sides of the path. This area was also the deserted village Horhausen.

At the next intersection, turn right into the "Lange Schneise". At the next intersection, turn left towards Andachtswald. At the entrance to Andachtswald, continue right until you cross Alpenroder Straße. (Caution when crossing!) Continue straight until the next intersection. Turn right there. Follow this path for about 800 meters until the rest area "Hasenbitze" appears at the left edge of the forest.

Then continue left to the Kneipp wading pool. At the pool, turn right. Continue straight along Birkenweg for about 650 meters until the boat pond in the valley. At the boat pond, go straight up the steep pedestrian path about 100 meters to Haingärtenweg. Turn left and after about 150 meters turn right. Then always straight ahead through Herrenstraße (here formerly lived the high officials of the count and in the v. Beust house also the Hachenburg writer Albertine von Grün) to the "Alten Markt".

The "Alten Markt" with the lion fountain is the baroque, historic center of Hachenburg. Leave the Alten Markt eastwards left or right past the Protestant church to the intersection Borngasse - Leipziger Straße – Alexanderring. Here begins the Burggarten. After about 150 m on the left, you reach the start and finish point again.

Safety instructions

  • Wear sturdy footwear and weather-appropriate, functional clothing that protects you against cold and wet or heat and sun.
  • Take enough fluids with you. There are not always refreshment options available.
  • Please wear suitable hiking shoes on the path, which provide sufficient grip even on slippery, steep, rocky, or uneven trails.
  • If you think certain sections of the path are not walkable for you, you should avoid them. Especially in adverse weather conditions, natural paths can become muddy and slippery.
  • Especially in autumn, pay attention that fallen leaves on the ground may hide unevenness, roots, stones, or holes in the path. You must expect such path impairments when hiking.
  • Although the path is very well marked throughout, you should always carry a suitable hiking map for safety reasons.

Equipment

Sturdy footwear or running shoes are sufficient.
