The Himmelreich family has won the lottery. As a result, Marita Himmelreich feels called upon to socialise in the so-called ‘higher’ circles - much to the chagrin of her family.
Grandma, who is hard of hearing, is to be sent to a retirement home and her son is to be paired up with Miss von Spiegelow. To achieve this, Marita Himmelreich has invited the von Spiegelow family for a weekend visit. As it is also Mr von Spiegelow's birthday, Marita outdoes herself with her absurd birthday surprises. But as is so often the case in life, some things go wrong!
All of Marita's planned surprises are foiled by Paula with the help of senile neighbour Heinrich and his granddaughter Roxy. What's more, the birthday party turns out to be very alcohol-fuelled, so that even the noble family loses their composure after the tenth schnapps.
To make matters worse, a representative and a member of staff from the retirement home arrive that weekend to check on Granny's mental state.
