Thursday, 15.09.2022, 6.00 p.m. - 9.30 p.m.: "Old Iron" film evening At the opening event of the "Picnic at the Tower" series, Andreas Hett, freelance art therapist, social worker and filmmaker from Oberursel, will present his documentary film "Altes Eisen - Wenn Ironmänner altern" (Old Iron - When Ironmen Age), which looks at the themes of getting older and staying fit. The Dillenburg sportsman Thomas Brandenburger initiated the film screening and will talk about the making of the film and its contents together with Andreas Hett. The filmmaker from Oberursel accompanied his former triathlon colleagues Kalli Nottrodt and Winfried Schmidt with his camera for almost three years and shows the image of two athletes who never stopped triathlon and who, at the age of 65 and 70, still became world champions in their age groups and were also among the front runners in countless Ironman starts worldwide. What motivates them to continue to train countless hours in old age and to challenge themselves athletically at the highest level? Is it a philosophy of life, a must, an addiction...? The film explores these exciting questions and takes the audience on an eventful cinematic journey of two legendary ironmen. Andreas Hett, who was an active triathlete himself for many years and got into triathlon himself through his acquaintance with the two protagonists of the film in the 80s, presents the two Ironmen in his documentary at close quarters.

Before the film begins, visitors will have the opportunity to talk about sporting activities and the like. The whole thing will be accompanied musically by the Dillenburg acoustic band "Streamless4", which will conjure up old rock classics on the tableau. Admission is € 5 p.p.

Friday, 16.09.2022,18.00 - 22.00: Aquarena "Rock" Night Since the popular Dillenburg town festival, the Aquarena Night, had to take a break again this year, some of the bands originally planned will be brought on stage in the course of the picnic format. The programme is therefore somewhat smaller than usual, but by no means "quieter". Under the unique and atmospheric ambience of the Wilhelmsturm, two bands will let it rip: "SAD" (Metallica Tribute) from Italy and "Motörblast" (Motörhead Tribute) from Wilnsdorf. "SAD" are without question one of the hottest live rock'n'roll Metallica tribute bands these days! With 110 million records sold, Metallica is certainly one of the most successful metal bands ever. For many, many years, the group from California has been enthroned at the top of the rock Olympus. Imitating Metallica in sound and show is certainly one of the most difficult tasks a tribute band can set itself. And the southerners from "SAD" seem to have mastered this brilliantly. "Motörblast" is concentrated Motörhead power since 2006! Not just covers, but the music and show of Lemmy and his boys - in memory of the Motörhead frontman - is celebrated down to the last detail. Dr. Ape, the band's German "Lemmy", plays the same legendary bass sound. "Has Lemmy risen again?" some will ask themselves here. The frontman has already been used as a double at the Wacken Festival. The guys' setlist reads like a greatest hits show and includes songs from the early Motörhead era (Bomber), as well as the infernal trio's latest rockers. A total Motörhead illusion is offered - a rock show of the extra class! Admission is 5 € p.p..

Saturday, 17.09.2022,18.30 - 22.15 h: Thriller-Picnic-Dinner Murder in the Mansion" mystery dinner in the picnic version! For the second year in a row, visitors and friends of good taste will have the opportunity to attend an exciting murder mystery dinner on the historic castle grounds. By interacting with the actors, the audience will take up the investigation of the unsolved murder of the eccentric Lord Jeremiah Highgrove alongside Inspector Watson of Scotland Yard and reopen the case. In addition to the extraordinary pieces of evidence, the possible crime suspects are of course also closely scrutinised. Great fun and exciting entertainment are guaranteed. In the end, the guests will surely succeed in unmasking the murderer by clever deduction! There are six actors in "Murder in the Mansion". The play is set in Scotland in the 1920s and costumes and props are elaborately designed.

Rock and blues are served up for dessert! To conclude and bring this year's mystery picnic dinner to a close, the three local musicians Michael "Öli" Müller, Christoph Stoll and Stefan Röger unpack their guitars at the Dillenburg open-air stage. Together, the local musical greats serve up a varied acoustic programme with well-known and lesser-known songs from the rock and blues genres. The musicians are best known for their bands "Öli Müller Bluesband", "Stoll and Friends" or "Zerzaust" and "Cellar4". As a trio, the friends are celebrating their stage premiere, so to speak. And Mr. Müller, Mr. Stoll and Mr. Röger are already very excited about how it will go. Admission for the evening is 12 € p.p..

There is also the option of purchasing a filled picnic bag with delicious treats from the Liebezeit restaurant in Oranienstadt. For €35.00, 2 people will receive selected tapas packed ready to eat in the thermal bag: Mini rolls, aubergine mousse, traditional potato tortilla, Iberico cheese, marinated Spanish olives, marinated mini mozzarella balls, chorizo pepper salami & dates wrapped in bacon, roasted mushrooms, Iberico pork ham, Pepper & Tomato & Cucumber Salad with Feta Cheese on Oregano Dressing, Seafood Salad, Arancini Rice Balls, Prawns, Baked Anchovies with Aioli, Chilli Cigars, Breaded Chicken Fillet Strips, Turkey/Vegetable Skewers on Sweet/Sour Sauce and Homemade Passion Fruit Tamisu with Berries, Cutlery & Napkins. Sunday, 18.09.2022, 10.00 a.m. - 5.00 p.m.: Children's Festival & Figure Theatre for the Whole Family On Sunday, the Schlossberg will be the scene of shining children's eyes and smiling faces. From 10.00 a.m. to 4.00 p.m., children and families are cordially invited to come to the "Langmann" site at the open-air stage and have fun to their hearts' content! In addition to a bouncy castle and an inflatable climbing wall, the young guests will be offered medieval games by the association "Fähnlein zu Dillenburg e.V.", face painting, magic with giant soap bubbles, clowning, a small button factory and other surprises.

The event is free of charge for all visitors. The event continues at 4 p.m. with cultural figure theatre for children aged 4 and over and the whole family. At the end of the children's festival, Michael Staemmler from the Gingganz figure theatre, who has already performed at the figure theatre days in Oranienstadt, will present the play "The Three Little Pigs and the Wolf". About the play: So now it's off into the big wide world. One for all and all for one! That's clear, say the three little pigs. But beware of the wicked wolf, says Mama Pig and: stay healthy and write to me how you are doing. Each little pig finds a place in the big world and builds a house. But the big bad wolf is on their trail. What luck that the three little pigs stick together and stand up for each other even in the greatest danger. And then Mama Sau gets a letter: "Dear Mama, we're fine and we've defeated the wolf! What luck! Admission to the family performance in the afternoon is 3 € p.p..

There is no direct access to the Schlossberg. Visitors can park at the adjacent tennis courts and in the surrounding residential area.

Should weather conditions (heavy rain, thunderstorms) prevent the events from taking place, the programme will be cancelled or, if possible, made up for as soon as possible. Admission tickets will then be refunded or remain valid in the event of a postponement.

This series of events is kindly supported by Sparkasse Dillenburg.
