Lecture: Raiffeisen for beginners
Raiffeisen School, Raiffeisen Centre, Raiffeisen Museum, Raiffeisen Stadium... In Hamm, Weyerbusch and Flammersfeld in particular, the name Friedrich Wilhelm Raiffeisen has been with the locals almost from childhood. But if you ask people who he actually was, you usually only get a shy, questioning answer: ‘Maybe the founder of Raiffeisenbank?’
In her lecture, Silvia Patt presents Raiffeisen's life's work, briefly explaining why he is known as the most important son of the Altenkirchen district and where we still encounter his work today - every day and all over the world. The presentation will last around 30 minutes, after which questions are permitted and welcome.
Sunday, 8 September, 3 pm, (‘Open Monument Day’) in Hamm (Sieg) in the forum next to the German Raiffeisen Museum. At the request of the participants, a short guided tour of the museum can take place afterwards.
Thursday, 3 October, 6 pm, (‘Day of German Unity’) in Weyerbusch, Gasthof zur Post, as a cooperation event with the brodverein e.V.

Friedrich Wilhelm Raiffeisen - a historical figure who continues to influence social structures all over the world. Few people know where he was born and grew up: in Hamm (Sieg). Come to Raiffeisen's birthplace and discover more about him in the German Raiffeisen Museum.
On 2 floors and in 8 exhibition rooms, the German Raiffeisen Museum gives you an insight into the life and work of the greatest son of Hamm (Sieg), Friedrich Wilhelm Raiffeisen.
Numerous originals are on display: Raiffeisen's birth certificate, documents on his education, as well as writings and minutes from his various mayoral posts. A highlight of the exhibition is the original death mask, which was made immediately after Raiffeisen's passing. And, of course, the founding period of the cooperatives is documented. All in all: a historical journey into the Westerwald of the 19th century.
In a separate room, books and documents, pictures and small gifts from visitors from many countries of the world are exhibited. Their guest gifts bear witness to the global significance of Raiffeisen's idea today.
The German Raiffeisen Museum is barrier-free.
