Event
Traditionally, the Dillenburger Museumsverein e. V. on Wednesday, November 1st (All Saints Day) at the end of this year's museum season on the historic Schlossberg. In the Wilhelmsturm, the history of the House of Orange-Nassau, and thus the Dutch royal family, is presented in detail on four levels. There are 114 steps to climb on site. Once at the top, visitors are rewarded with a wonderful view of Dillenburg from the balcony. In the Villa Grün Economic History Museum, guests will find access to the past and present of the local economy on three levels. The history of mining in the former Dillkreis is presented “underground” in the basement. Villa Grün is ending this year’s museum season with the special exhibition “Intruders”. The installation of organic objects by Christoph Steeger are disruptions in the Wilhelminian style architecture of Villa Grün. With their joy of color, their biological shapes, their rising and falling movements and their expansive size, they enliven the building with a cheerful spirit, sometimes spiky, sometimes round, sometimes plump, sometimes limp, but always changing. And because Steeger's objects also have a technical core, they are related to the history of technical achievements and to the exhibits that are constantly shown in the Economic Museum. The kinetic objects do not symbolize any use, rather they are an expression of the cycles of life, of growth and decay, of poetry.
Casemate tour and cannon shots
Something completely unusual awaits visitors on a tour of the casemates. During the approximately one-hour tour, guests learn a lot of interesting facts about the underground defenses, which are considered to be the second largest in Europe after their namesakes in Luxembourg City. In the casemates, at eight degrees Celsius, you need to wear appropriate clothing and the bumpy terrain requires sturdy shoes. In addition to a visit to the museum and casemates, the Schlossberg area also invites you to take an informative walk. Twelve text panels have been set up at nine prominent locations, providing information about the history of the castle and the defenses and showing the might of the former castle. The project group “Life in the 18th Century” of the Dillenburger Museumsverein e.V. will greet visitors in historical uniform with a gun salute: the cannons will be fired on the hour from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. The Schlossbergverein Dillenburg e.V. is also involved and provides active support. The ladies and gentlemen, also dressed in historical clothing, spoil the guests with local specialties and serve hearty sandwiches and rolls with homemade jams or hearty home-made sausage. Sweet surprises are also available for the little guests. Experience has shown that a cup of coffee is always very popular with guests - especially after a tour of the casemates. Food and drinks are free for visitors to the museums and casemates; donations are welcome.
