The Dillenburg Museum Association invites you to the historic Schlossberg on Friday, November 1st (All Saints Day) to conclude this year's museum season. In the Wilhelmsturm, the history of the House of Orange-Nassau, and thus of the Dutch royal family, is presented in detail on four levels. There are 114 steps to climb. Once at the top, visitors are rewarded with a wonderful view of Dillenburg from the balcony. In the Villa Grün Economic History Museum, guests find access to the past and present of the local economy on three levels. The history of mining in the former Dill district is presented "underground" in the basement of the museum. Villa Grün is ending this year's museum season with the special exhibition "The oldest trade and commercial enterprises around Dillenburg". The history of the towns Frohnhausen, Nanzenbach, Eibach, Nieder- and Oberscheld, Donsbach and Manderbach, which are incorporated into Dillenburg, is presented in words and pictures on large-format prints, and as a special feature, the history of the two oldest trading or commercial enterprises in each town. Something completely unusual awaits visitors on a tour of the casemates. During a tour lasting around an hour, guests learn a lot of interesting facts about the underground defense systems, which - after their namesakes in Luxembourg City - are considered the second largest in Europe. In the casemates, at eight degrees Celsius, appropriate clothing is required and the bumpy terrain requires sturdy shoes. In addition to a visit to the museum and casemates, the Schlossberg grounds also invite you to take an informative walk. Twelve text panels have been set up at nine prominent locations, providing information about the history of the castle and the defense systems and showing the might of the former castle. The “Life in the 18th Century” project group of the Dillenburg Museum Association will greet visitors in historical uniforms with a gun salute: the cannons will be fired every hour from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. The Schlossbergverein Dillenburg e.V. is also taking part and is actively supporting the museum association. The ladies and gentlemen, also dressed in historical clothing, will spoil the guests with local specialties and serve sandwiches and rolls with homemade jams or hearty homemade sausage. Sweet surprises will also be prepared for the little guests. Experience has shown that a cup of coffee is also always very popular with guests - especially after a tour of the casemates. Food and drinks are free for visitors to the museums and casemates, but donations are welcome. The museum facilities are open from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Casemate tours start every hour from 11 a.m. in front of the Wilhelmsturm. Registration is not required, so nothing stands in the way of a spontaneous visit to the historic Schlossberg complex at the end of this year's season. The entrance fee for both museums is €4 for adults and €2 for children up to 15 years. The Schlossberg card costs €7 for adults and €3.50 for children up to 15 years. The Schlossberg card entitles you to visit both museums and to take part in an exciting casemate tour.
