After the steep section, cross Borngasse at the crosswalk and turn left. Immediately turn right into the street "Am Schwimmbad". At the end of the street, before the boat pond, turn left into Birkenweg. Continue straight ahead until you reach the forest. Pass the Kneipp treading pool half-right. Here you have a view, depending on the weather, to the Siebengebirge near Bonn.
Behind the water reservoir (the historical one is on the left side) continue to the right. At the next crossing turn left and after about 40 meters turn right again. Cross the Gehlerter Straße (be careful!) and continue along the forest road into the Rothenbachtal. Turn right at the first junction, pass the brewery spring (left side) and after about 350 meters turn left to the "Rothbachgrotte". Cross the Rothenbach and follow the path (climbing character) for about 300 meters until you reach the edge of the forest.
Cross the Steinebacher Straße here. Turn into the street "Vor der Heck" and immediately take the forest path on the left side next to the garage. Pass a statue of the Virgin Mary and follow the trail markings until you reach the tarred road in front of the Altstädter Grillhütte. Turn right and follow the road to the Altstädter Bergkreuz. In this area you have very good panoramic views of Hachenburg and the surrounding area.
At the Altstädter Bergkreuz follow the grassy path either to the left or to the right of the electric fence until you reach the road "Am Hebeberg" Keep right until you reach the "Bergstraße". Then turn left, cross Steinebacher Straße and continue along the footpath after the letterbox until you reach "Bleichstraße". On the "Bleichstraße" always keep left until you reach the old town "Mühlenbrunnen" on the right side. Continue to the next intersection and then turn right until you reach the brewery. Alternatively, you can make a detour to the "Bierpark" of the Hachenburg brewery.
At the Gehlerter Weg, change sides at the crosswalk and then continue left, after about 70 meters continue right along the footpath. Pass the old "Eiskeller" of the brewery until you reach the parking lot of the children's house. Pass the parking lot to the right and immediately at the end of the fence continue along the sidewalk on the left until you reach the "Lohmühle" near the Löwenbad.
Turn left into "Bachweg", continue straight ahead for about 350 meters until you reach "Johann-August-Ring", turn left here and immediately right at Steinweg.
Walk through Wilhelmstraße (pedestrian zone) until you reach the "Alter Markt".
The "Alter Markt" with the lion fountain is the baroque, historical center of Hachenburg. Leave the "Alter Markt" to the east to the left or to the right past the Protestant Church to the intersection Borngasse - Leipziger Straße - Alexanderring. Here begins the Burggarten. After approx. 150m on the left you have reached the starting and finishing point again.
Light hiking shoes or sturdy footwear (running shoes) are sufficient.
If you want to learn something about hops and beer brewing, you should take a short detour from the blue trail in the old town to the beer garden of the Hachenburg Westerwald Brewery (entry is free of charge and at your own risk).
